LA Bowl to Host First High School Football Game at SoFi Stadium, “LA Bowl Friday Night Lights”

Crosstown Rivals Downey High School and Warren High School will face off on Friday, Oct. 13, for LA Bowl Friday Night Lights at SoFi Stadium

Inglewood, Calif. (September 27, 2023) – LA Bowl will host its first high school football game under the lights at SoFi Stadium for LA Bowl Friday Night Lights on Friday, Oct. 13. SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams, is set to transform into the ultimate high school football battleground for the eagerly anticipated clash between Downey High School and Warren High School. This game, presented by LA Bowl, is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. Tickets will be on sale starting Thursday, September 28 at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com.

The winning high school team of LA Bowl Friday Night Lights will have the opportunity to return to SoFi Stadium to be recognized for their achievement at this year’s LA Bowl on December 16. LA Bowl is a collegiate football game owned and operated by SoFi Stadium, and features Mountain West’s No. 1 selection versus the Pac-12’s No. 5 selection, after the CFP selection. “LA Bowl is committed to promoting the importance of education, health and wellness, and physical activity by hosting various events in the local community,” said Adolfo Romero, vice president, programming and booking, SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park. “We’re excited to continue these efforts by welcoming the students, faculty, and families of Downey High School and Warren High School to SoFi Stadium for its first high school football game.”

For Downey Unified School District, the matchup between Downey High School and Warren High School is one of the most anticipated rivalry games of the year. Last year, the Warren Bear’s strong offense pushed the team to a 49-22 win over the Downey Vikings. The Vikings later went on to win the CIF Southern Section Division 4 championship.

“As a former Downey Viking player, the Downey vs Warren game is something I know players look forward to every year. Being able to compete in this crosstown rivalry game and be the first-ever high school game to be played at SoFi Stadium will be something extra special that will live on with our players forever,” said Jack Williams, head coach, Downey High School.

“Having been a head coach in the Los Angeles area for 28 years, I’m aware of many great rivalries, but I’ve always said that the Warren vs. Downey rivalry was the best kept secret in high school football,” said Kevin Pearson, head coach, Warren High School. “I’m excited that the dedication and great work from Downey Unified, administration, teachers, staff, students and families will be showcased at this historic event. I am humbled and honored that our unique and historical rivalry has been chosen for the first high school football game hosted at SoFi Stadium.”

LA Bowl is dedicated to working with students and the local community to provide experiences outside of the classroom and to highlight collegiate opportunities year-round. Earlier this year, LA Bowl, alongside the Rams and Chargers, worked together to highlight and promote girls flag football within the Los Angeles community. The girls participated in flag football drills led by Rams Performance Camp Coaches and the Chargers Football Development team.
