World-Renowed Kinsey African American Art & History Collection Partners With SoFi Stadium For One-Of-A-Kind Exhibition

The Exhibition Marks The First Art Collection To Be Displayed At Hollywood Park Inside SoFi Stadium Brought to you by the Kroenke Family Foundation and Hollywood Park Foundation Inglewood, CA (January 26, 2022) – SoFi Stadium is proud to announce that the award-winning Kinsey African American Art and History Collection, one of the world’s largest private collections of African American art and historical artifacts, will be displayed at the stadium opening on February 23rd. Brought to Greater Los Angeles by the Kroenke Family Foundation and newly launched Hollywood Park Foundation, the exhibition marks the first ever art collection to be displayed at SoFi Stadium. The collection will feature over 70 masterful works of art, sculptures, photographs, rare books, letters, as well as a new interactive experience bringing the art to life. The collection returns to Los Angeles after touring worldwide for 15 years. Black art from the past and present will be showcased along with work from LA-based artists presenting contemporary pieces at SoFi Stadium. In honor of Black History Month, the collection will open on Wednesday, February 23 and be on display through April 2022. One-hour, self-guided tours will be available Thursday through Monday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM inside SoFi Stadium. The collection benefits the new Hollywood Park Foundation, a nonprofit organization that is launching with the Kinsey African American Art and History Collection. The foundation develops and supports youth programs focused on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education, and health and wellness. The Hollywood Park Foundation assists youth locally with education resources, healthy eating information, safe spaces for physical play, as well as other education, and health and wellness initiatives geared towards supporting youth. “We are honored to partner with the Kroenke Family Foundation and the Hollywood Park Foundation and to bring the first ever art collection to SoFi Stadium,” said the Kinsey family. “We couldn’t be more excited to share the collection with our hometown of Los Angeles and look forward to providing an experience that educates, inspires and motivates.” Having toured more than 30 cities in the U.S. and internationally, the collection has been viewed by more than 15 million people and will be showcased for the first time ever in a world-class stadium. The exhibition will feature powerful artworks from renown artists including Charles Ethan Porter, May Howard Jackson, Elizabeth Catlett, Sam Gilliam, Ernie Barnes, Charles White and Romare Bearden, along with important historical objects such as letters from Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, a signed poem by Langston Hughes, the landmark 1954 Brown V. Board ruling establishing racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional, and much more. A new and dynamic digital enhancement experience will bring select artworks to life via animation and choreographed movement that will excite art lovers of all ages, along with augmented reality and contextual information through Google Arts and Culture’s online platform. This collection will help us celebrate African American achievements with the Kinsey family.” The Kinsey African American Art and History Collection is the inspired work of Bernard and Shirley Kinsey, and their son Khalil, and considered one of the largest and most comprehensive of its kind. Beginning over 50 years ago, the Kinsey’s have been on a journey of collecting fine art and primary source historical objects that document the African American experience and illuminate the untold stories of Black Excellence throughout U.S. history. Curated by Khalil Kinsey and historian Larry Earl, the exhibition focuses on the lives, accomplishments, and brilliance of African Americans from the 16th century through the years of slavery and emancipation to the civil rights movement through modern day. About The Kinsey Collection On tour since 2006, The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection has been displayed in over 30 museums throughout the country, with an international showing in Hong Kong and plans for Colombia and the UK. Via fine art, authentic artifacts, documents, literature, and more, the exhibition aims to share the stories of Black achievement and contribution that are rarely told or taught in school. The award-winning collection served as a foundational and precursor exhibition for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in 2011. Additionally, the collection was on view at EPCOT, Walt Disney World from 2013 – 2018, The collection has been cited for three national awards, including the President’s National Award for Museum and Library Services. The Bernard and Shirley Kinsey Foundation for Art & Education (a 501(c)3 organization) is an educational resource with nationwide institutional partnerships – kindergarten through college – dedicated to the research, interpretation, and presentation of African American history and culture globally.
